“A time comes when Silence is betrayal”

Amidst a nation mourning the murders of an inordinate number of young black men and women at the hands of violent cops and vigilantes, the time has come where silence is a betrayal!

While our nation has awakened to the February 26th murder of Trayvon Martin, his case is but one example of a long-standing civil and human rights crisis in our nation's history. In the last two months we've seen at least eleven horrific murders, all products of the mass criminalization of black people, immigrants, Muslims, and other people of color in the U.S.

February 2, Ramarley Graham, 19, Bronx, NY
February 26, Trayvon Martin, 17, Sanford, FL
March 1, Justin Sipp, 20, New Orleans, LA
March 2, Dante Price, 25, Dayton, OH
March 3, Bo Morrison, 20, Milwaukee, WI
Mar 7,Wendell Allen, 20, New Orleans, LA
March 10, Kenneth Smith, 20,Cleveland, Ohio
March 14, Dane Scott, 18, Del City, Oklahoma
March 22, Rekia Boyd, 22, Chicago, IL
March 22, Shaima Alawadi, 32, California
March 24, Ervin Jefferson, 18, Dekalb County, Georgia

Countless other murders and attacks right here in Philadelphia remind us that terror reigns in our communities, alongside, poverty, homelessness, unemployment, and violence.

On April 24, 2012, Mumia Abu-Jamal's 58th birthday, we will gather at the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Washington DC and request that Attorney General, Eric Holder, immediately meet with a delegation to discuss police corruption and civil rights violations in Mumia's case and in the cases of hundreds of other defendants and victims of racialized violence across the country.

Silence is no longer an option

“Conscience compels me to unite with Nelson Mandela, Catholic Bishop Thomas Gumbelton, elected representatives of the European Parliament, the Congressional Black Caucus, Amnesty International, Harry Belafonte, Paul Newman, Ossie Davis, Danny Glover, Arch Bishop Desmond Tutu, and millions of others around the globe to fight for the life of our brother in "the struggle," Mumia Abu-Jamal. We demand that, all those with the power to intervene, do so now in the name of justice, do so now in the name of all that America holds, claims to hold, true and fair, do so now in the name of humanity, do so now, in the name of all those who have already died to force America to live up to its motto of liberty and justice for all.” –MLK, III

Join the call lead by Martin Luther King, III in demanding justice for not only Mumia, but all people who have unjustly been convicted by this (in)justice system.

Will you stand on the right side of history and demand the release of Mumia Abu Jamal?

Join us April 24 from 11am-4pm at The Department Of Justice 950 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW Washington DC; you are required!

“Let us love one another; for love is God and everyone that loveth is born of God and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. If we love one another God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.” A time to break silence, MLK – 1967
