Audacious Chrisitans
The work of His disciples was to spread the news of Jesus' life, to live the life of Christ; to feed the homeless, to empower the poor, to love humanity. Jesus is our reason for living; to live the life of Jesus is to be a revolutionary.
I reach out to you with these words because we all need reminding of who Jesus is. Jesus is our truth; He represents Truth, and in the face of injustice and untruths it is our responsibility as disciples of Jesus Christ to stand in the presence of evil and declare victory over all evil through God our Father.
I will no longer cower in fear, I seek to put on the whole armor of God and stand declaring that Mumia Abu Jamal, all political prisoners, and the men and women imprisoned due to mass incarceration must be released and set free!
This is a call for Audacious Christians. Christians that will live the love of Christ and fight for the poor, uneducated, and imprisoned!
The recent Supreme Court motion that declared Mumia's death sentence unconstitutional has for the first time opened up the possibility of imagining Mumia's release from prison. Archbishop Desmond Tutu led the call for Mumia's release on December 9, 2011 at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, where over 1,100 people gathered to mark the 30th anniversary of Mumia's incarceration. And when the called was made to the audience to OCCUPY the Justice Department, it was welcomed with a roar.
The next step in the struggle to release Mumia will be taken on April 24, the day of Mumia's 58th birthday. On that day, we will gather at the Justice Department in Washington DC to carry forth the call to "OCCUPY the Justice Department." Our goal now is to make a formal request that Eric Holder meet with a delegation of national and international figures to discuss the violations in the case as well as the long history of corruption and civil rights violations against African Americans and Latinos in Philadelphia at the hands of the courts and the police.
Because Mumia's removal from Death Row has coincided with the dramatic shift in consciousness in American society produced by the criminal execution of Troy Davis, we believe that this moment is opening a window of opportunity within which we might be able to fulfill one of the most important moral assignments of our time.
Our goal is to build a movement that will expose the fraudulence of the Prison Industrial Complex, its exploitation of free labor, and ensure that all those effected by this unjust system be returned home.
Our demands include:
1) The Release of Mumia Abu-Jamal
2) An End to Mass Incarceration
3) An End to Solitary Confinement used for torture and the Death Penalty
I am personally asking for you to stand with this movement and demand an end to the cruelties that have unfortunately impacted so many of our men, women, and children.
I hope you are able to go on www.freemumia.com to learn more about this movement to End Mass Incarceration and free Mumia Abu Jamal.
I look forward to hearing from you soon and I hope the rest of your day is blessed and beautiful!
Peace and love,
Jamila K Wilson, audacious christian
